Purple Orange Grass

With the ever increasing popularity of the more famous trekking destinations such as Everest and Annapurna leading to severe overcrowding in the trekking seasons the less well-known valleys such as Langtang provide a more authentic and intimate Himalayan trekking experience.

This Iconic 11-day journey begins in Kathmandu exploring the city before embarking on a moderately challenging 7 day trek in the Langtang Valley. If you're a Himalayan first timer this is the perfect introduction to trekking in Nepal.

Purple grass

A true Himalayan nature experience with immersion into local lifestyle and culture.

The Langtang Valley lies within the Langtang and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges. The people that live here are largely ethnically Tamang and Tibetan, with a culture that dates back hundreds of years. The region has rapidly recovered from the 2015 earthquake and the strength and resilience of the local people is clearly evident in the rebuilt communities. Their rich Himalayan heritage is reflected in their craftsmanship, dress, traditionally built stone houses, and beautifully carved wooden porches.

Visits to the area, which is partially protected as Langtang National Park, provide Himalayan nature experiences as well as an insight into the lifestyle and culture of the traditional inhabitants. They mostly raise sheep and yaks, but they also grow a variety of hardy cereals and vegetables. Raising cattle, agriculture, and trade across the border with Tibet are all part of the locals' daily existence. Their major foods are wheat, maize, potato, soyabean, and millet.

The Langtang region was severely impacted by the 2015 Nepal Earthquake. Trekking to this region brings much needed income to local families.

To undertake this walking journey, you need to be moderately fit with good stamina and we recommend that you bring a sense of adventure and curiosity.

To get to Nepal, take your normal suitcase or large travel pack with a couple of padlocks, and bring your smaller trekking day pack inside or as hand luggage. In Kathmandu, you will just need casual clothes such as jeans or a skirt, plus a light jacket if the evenings get cool.

While you are away on your trek, you can leave your city clothes (and anything else you don’t want to take) locked away in your suitcase and placed in safe storage at your arrival hotel. It will be ready for your collection when you return.

In addition, you will also be able to leave all your valuables (including passport, documentation, airline tickets, credit card, and jewellery) in a safety deposit box at the hotel for the duration of your trek.

We suggest you use the items on our downloadable packing list as a check list when you pack. Toiletries such as tissues, toilet paper, wet wipes, sunscreen, toothpaste etc are all readily available in Kathmandu. All trekking clothes and equipment are also available. Remember that a down jacket will be provided in your trek pack if the season/trek warrants it. Also a map relevant to your trek will be provided.

A visa for Nepal can be applied for prior to travel from your nearest Nepali Embassy or you can simply aquire a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Please follow these simple procedures for Tourist Visa on Arrival at the airport in Kathmandu.

Step 1: Fill in 'Arrival Card', then fill in online ‘Tourist Visa‘ form (We recommend filling this in prior to your arrival by visiting the official website  Department of Immigration  or you can fill it in using Kiosk machines upon your arrival at the airport).  If you fill it in prior to arrival, you will get a submission receipt with barcode, you must print it out and bring it with you. It remains valid for fifteen days from submission.

Step 2: Pay for your  visa at the bank counter based on your visa requirement. 15 Day Single Entry is 30 USD,  30 Day Single Entry is 50 USD.  If you are also visiting Bhutan and returning to Nepal for further travel then you must get a multi-entry visa. Different methods of payment may be available but we recommend you carry cash to be safe.  Make sure you collect your visa payment receipt.

Step 3:  Proceed to the Immigration Desk with your online form, payment receipt and your passport.  Hand your documents to the immigration officer for visa processing. He/she issues the visa to you upon his/her satisfaction.

Proceed to baggage collection then exit the arrivals area and look for our Iconic Walks staff waiting for you outside.

Travellers Cheques and Cash of all major various currencies are readily exchangeable in Kathmandu. Anyone who is in good health and mentally prepared can take part in our treks. Some treks however are more strenuous and entail many days at higher altitude. You are also advised to visit your Doctor (and Dentist) before travelling and to adhere to current vaccination recommendations.

There may be some rare situations (multi-day airplane delays due to dangerous weather, road blockage due to landside or other impassable conditions), where a client may opt for an expensive, but more immediate return to Kathmandu by helicopter. This also includes situations where a client opts for a helicopter trip in order to return home early due to an emergency or due to a health issue that may arise during the trip. In any of these cases, the expense of any helicopter flight is the sole responsibility of the client.
